Diagnosis

Cells rhomboid in transverse section oval, slightly to strongly compressed in dorsiventral plane. Transverse sulcus slightly curves leftwards, dividing the cell into two unequal parts. Longitudinal sulcus not overlapping the hypovalve but extending the whole epivalve and reaches anapex. Margins of sulcus and girdle are edged. Cell covered by thick theca. Plates reticular or folded. Edges of the sutures with hyaline ridges. Chloroplasts numerous, discoid. Hypotheca acute, shorter than epytheca, first antapical plate terminated with spine 3-5 micrometers long. Pore at the apex of epivalve.
