Euduboscquella sp. Masan Bay (Korea)
Diagnosis
Diagnosis_Genus: Euduboscquella Coats & Bachvaroff 2012. Euduboscquellidae with trophont episome as disc-shaped shield bordered by a perinematic ring. Lamina pharyngea extending from perinematic ring into trophont cytoplasm. Food vacuole formed as trophont emerges from host giving rise to extracellular tomont. Multiple spore morphotypes possible, including dinokont and non-dinokont cells. Individual infections producing only one type of spore.
Species from Masan Bay (Korea) Euduboscquella parasite infecting Favella panamensis
Undescribed species of Euduboscquella, infecting Favella panamensis. Known from SSU and ITS sequence from 4 individual infected host cells (Bachvaroff et al. 2012). Accession number: JN934986
This species is closed to individuals described as Euduboscquella sp. from Villefranche-sur-Mer (France), infecting Favella markusovszkyi (Bachvaroff et al. 2012, Accession number: JN934985) and individuals sequenced by Harada et al. 2007 (Accession number: AB295040). Between these two parasites, there were only seven SSU differences (JN934985 versus JN934986), but there was a large 34-base extension of stem IV in the ITS2 from F. ehrenbergii in the Masan Bay parasite, and there were four compensatory changes in stems I to III among the Euduboscquella isolates from these two sites and hosts. The similarity between Favella markusovszkyi and Favella panamensis hosts was mirrored by their parasites and might represent an example of host parasite coevolution.
Etymology
Genus name is derived from the Greek eu- (= well, normal) and the genus name Duboscquella. The combination is intended to imply organisms truly related to the parasite studied by Duboscq and Collin (1910).
Type species
The type species of the genus is E. crenulata.
