Spongostaurus sp.
Diagnosis
Lobular extensions of the cetral capsule, each protusion may attain a length of 19 mm with an average diameter of 2mm. The capsular prostusions are surronded by a thick gelatinous matrix supporting rhizopodia extending in a direction roughly normal to an imaginary tangent to the surface of the central capsule. The termina of the lobular projections are supplied with thickened rhizopodia extendinf through the gelatinous mass. A complex lobed nucleus is found in the central region of the capsule intercalating with the spongiose skeletal mass. The skeletal material is separated from the cytoplasmic material by a double membrane. the lobular projections are filled with oily droplets and contain most of the mitochondrial apparatus. The fusules (pres in the capsular wall) are typicak for spongiose radiolaria, bearing a collar perforated with microspores.
