Diagnosis

Diagnosis_Genus: Solenodinium Chatton 1923. Intracapsular parasites of thalassicoles, forming digitated plasmodia invading the host endoplasma. V-shaped chromosome typical for Syndiniales during sporogenesis.

Diagnosis_Species: S. fallax Chatton 1923. Hollande and Enjumet 1953 described young trophont containing a dinocaryon (specific to Dinophyceae), that may correspond to another parasite as typical syndinian mitoses occur during sporogenesis. Trophont grows first inside the nucleus and produced numerous digitations that expand and ramify. This extension is accompanied by active nuclear division. Then, the parasite perforates the nuclear envelop with its numerous digitations but the host nucleus membrane still persists. Nuclei are dense and arranged in 3-4 files inside digitations. Sporogenesis produced two types of spores (macro- and microspores) most of time, only one type of spore less often, may be depending on their maturity. Macrospores 12 µm long. V-shaped chromosome (5 in total).
