Diagnosis
Polyps immersed in coenenchyme, with mesoglea filling entire space between polyps; coenenchyme height to 26 mm; diameter of living, contracted polyps removed from colony to 8 mm; capitular ridges to 35 in number; tentacles to 50; heavily encrusted ; numerous gastrodermal canals in mesoglea ; sphincter moderateIy developed ; colour of colony that of encrusting material. Surge pools, rocky coasts, and reefs of the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii.
External aspects : Polyps immersed in coenenchyme ; thickness of coenenchyme to 26 mm; diameter of living, contracted polyps to 8 mm; capitular ridges to 35 in number; tentacles to 50; heavily encrusted, with colour that of the encrusting material.
Sphincter : Moderately developed ; arising near proximal portion of capitulum as a series of small cavities which become larger and elongated distally.
