Diagnosis

Diagnosis_Genus: Chasmodes Cuvier & Valenciennes. Ce genre réunit au caractère d'avoir des ouïes ouvertes seulement au-dessus des pectorales, comme celles des blennechis, un second, fort distinct, et qui consiste dans uue bouche bien fendue et qui n'a de dents qu'à la partie antérieure des mâchoires; elles sont fermes, régulières et sur une seule rangée.

Chasmodes: Greek, chanos, -eos, ous, and chasma, -atos = abyss, mouth opened, inmensity + Latin, muraena = morey eel.

Habitat: This western Atlantic species is endemic to the USA, where it ranges from New York, New York in the north to the eastern coast of Florida to New Smyrna Beach (Javonillo and Harold 2010).
