Diagnosis

Tripos: Marine thecate dinoflagellate dorso-ventrally compressed, depressed ventral area and up to three horns. Gonyaulacaleans with two cingular plates in dorsal view.

Etymology

Tripos: From the ancient Greek τρίπους (tripous), three-footed seat, tripod. Muelleri: Noun (singular possessive) (Latinised), honouring a person with the surname Müller.

Type species

This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Tripos.
