Marinobacter sp.
Diagnosis
Marinobacter sp. is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, marine bacterium and is not capable of sporulation. On average, they are between 0.3-0.6 µm in diameter and 2-3 µm long. The cells have an unsheathed polar flagellum allowing them to be motile in the marine environment.
Etymology
L. adj. marinus, of the sea, marine; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod or staff; N.L. masc. n. Marinobacter, rod of the sea.
Ecology
They are also extremely halotolerance and somewhat halophill. They can grow in an environment with a NaCl concentration range of 0.08 M - 3.5 M, with an optimal NaCl concentration of 0.6 M. The bacteria usually grow and live in an environment with a temperature of 10 - 45˚C and a pH of 6 – 9.5;
